The Irish Cancer Society is currently accepting applications for its Cancer Research Engagement Award 2021.

A key priority in the new Irish Cancer Society strategy 2020-2025 is to invest in world-class cancer research that will ultimately bring about a positive change to the lives of people affected by cancer. We do this by ensuring that all the research that we fund will have an impact and make a difference to people affected by cancer. Fundamental to driving forward impactful cancer research is ensuring that people with cancer are informed about, engaged with, and involved in cancer research.

The objective of the award is to provide funding for independent cancer researchers based in the Republic of Ireland to organise engagement activities. The aim of these activities is to promote cancer research to anyone affected by cancer and the public. Further information about the call, including application guidelines, can be found here: https://www.cancer.ie/cancer-research/researchers-hub/apply-for-funding-open-calls/cancer-research-engagement-awards-2021

A number of changes have been made for the 2021 Cancer Research Engagement Award:

  • Applications are open to any independent translational, clinical, or academic cancer researchers as well as social science, nursing and allied health professionals.
  • The funding period for the Cancer Research Engagement Award is now up to 24 months.
  • Given the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, engagement activities can be held both virtually or face-to-face. ‘Blended’ events with both ‘physical’ and ‘virtual’ components are also considered.

Applications can be made through the Irish Cancer Society Gateway Grant Tracker online system. Further information about our open calls, including application guidelines, can be found here: https://www.cancer.ie/cancer-research/researchers-hub/apply-for-funding-open-calls
